Grays KN12000 ProBow Xtreme Hockey Stick Review

The Grays KN12000 Probow Xtreme hockey stick is the top of the Kinetic range offering premium features and maximum power. It’s the most expensive hockey stick we’ve ever come across, and we’re not sure it warrants the £400 price tag?

The Grays KN12000 Probow Xtreme hockey stick’s technology is designed primarily for progressive and fast-paced 3D styles of play. It has foam injected into the structural core in the handle, blade and head. This is combined with a twin tube carbon fibre matrix to create a highly stable and durable stick. Performance and structural durability are improved too as a result of the foam internal compartments either side of the central carbon fibre wall.

The iconic face of the Grays ProBow range is one that really stands out. It has a very deep concave face which does help with dragflicking, but could take quite a bit of getting used to when used with other skills. The flat backhand edge has been increased to generate extra strike power, and the thinner toe profile aids control and one on one dribbling skills.

Sticks in the KN range feature Kinetic Core Technology at the epicentre of each stick. This allows a complete redistribution of weight, creating a light and nimble pickup. This technology is designed primarily for progressive and fast-paced 3D styles of play. Tri-Tec weave and Graphene reinforcement ensures there is maximum accuracy when shooting.

Technology

Revolutionary graphene technology makes this one of the lightest, yet hardest hitting sticks on the market today. Graphene and the classic trusted GX composition have been merged to create the GR range. The Grays Probow blade profile sees the 24.75mm bow placed 200mm from the bottom of the stick, making this stick ideal for players who like to execute 3D skills as well as being able to perform a deadly penalty corner drag-flick.

The Grays KN12000 has a number of added technology capabilities:

  • Pro Feel Area – absorbs ball impact and provides a softer feel. A combination of shock absorbing aramid and vibration dampening foam softens the first touch. The external playing surface is textured and coated in high grip silicone.
  • Pro Edge Protection – advanced formulation of impact resistant materials and resin help increase the longevity of the backhand edge.
  • Abrasion Resistant Durazone has been placed in the heel area to reduce wear and increase durability. Also reduces the effect of abrasive synthetic pitches.
  • Probow Xtreme profile a combination of a straighter upper blade profile with a low blade curve point which will help generate drag flick momentum.
  • Graphene fibre matrix construction with integrated carbon, aramid and graphene resin increases core stability.
  • Torque Bars – combined with woven carbon, the torque bars orientate carbon fibre in one specific direction to help reduce torsional forces when hitting the ball.

Whilst this stick offers a vast array of technology, Hockey Hippo feels the £400 price tag outweighs any additional benefit you may get from, say, the TK Total One 1.2 Illuminate which is £120 cheaper.
